Agilent and NTU’s NEWRI Join Forces to Revolutionize Water Testing in Singapore

Fog Blogs | Agilent Technologies and Nanyang Technological University’s Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute (NEWRI) have signed a three-year agreement to supercharge water contaminant research in Singapore. The announcement was made on July 28, 2025, at NEWRI’s headquarters, where top leaders from both organizations gathered to mark the occasion.

What’s New?
The new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) sets the stage for a powerful collaboration that focuses on advanced water analysis and environmental research. At the heart of the partnership is the goal of enhancing Singapore’s ability to detect emerging water contaminants—like microplastics and other hard-to-trace pollutants—using cutting-edge tools and techniques.

Agilent, a global name in lab tech and analytical instruments, will provide its latest innovations, including LC/MS systems, ICP-MS instruments, Seahorse XF technology, and LDIR chemical imaging. These tools will be integrated into NEWRI’s ongoing R&D projects to develop new methods for chemical and bioassay screenings. This is the third major partnership between Agilent and NEWRI, further cementing a longstanding relationship focused on sustainability and public health.

Building on a Legacy of Environmental Innovation
NEWRI has been at the forefront of environmental science for more than a decade, with a proven track record in areas like low-energy desalination, solid waste management, and autonomous water treatment. Ranked 13th globally in Environmental Sciences by QS in 2025, NTU’s institute continues to push boundaries in research and tech applications for cleaner, safer environments.
